What is a Micro Fiber and Why is it so Important for Safe Car Paint Scratch Removal?

Microfibers are tiny fibers that have been processed into millions of finer fibers, no thicker than one hundredth of a human hair. The process produces an ultra-fine fiber with wedge shape filaments and a core of nylon. The wedge shape, the nylon core, and the smaller size fiber are the key to their effectiveness. The unique fibers are woven with a special process into a fabric  and the result is a powerful cleaning tool.

The fine threads consist of two polymers – polyester and polyamide (nylon) – that combine to form a single thread. Polyester is lyophillic, which means it attracts oil. So grease and oil adhere directly to the fibers. Polyamide is hydrophilic, so it attracts water. As a result micro fiber towels safely remove grit, car scratch remover compounds and liquids, quickly, completely and scratch-free.

Each square centimeter consists of tens of thousands of miniature pockets that pull dirt up, trap the waste and leave a clean streak-free surface.  Think of the fiber pockets as miniature vacuum cleaners. The secret to the cleaning power of micro fibers is the nylon core which forms millions of  tiny cutting edges that break up surface dirt, absorbing oils and other grimy substances. Microfiber is traditionally defined as a fiber with a denier of less than one. Denier is a measure of the thinness of a fiber and is the weight in grams of a continuous fiber of 9,000 meters. One microfiber is 100 times thinner than a single strand of human hair and ten times finer than silk.

Why Micro Fiber Towels are a Must Have for Car Scratch Removal.

Micro fiber towels are far more absorbent and softer than ordinary cotton because the microfibers cover a surface area 40 times greater than that of a regular cotton fiber towel. This is especially important when removing car paint scratches because the micro fiber towel picks up and safely suspends the car scratch remover compounds as you remove scratches from your paint.  While ordinary cotton towels tend to smear the residue around causing micro scratches… exactly what you are trying to remove!  Dirt stays locked in the microfiber towel until it is washed. 

Care and Feeding of Micro Fiber Towels After Car Paint Scratch Repair.

Microfiber cloths are extremely durable and cost effective. They can be washed up to 500 times and still maintain their effectiveness while removing car paint scratches.  They are also extremely easy to care for – simply machine wash or hand wash with a mild soap or laundry detergent.   Note: Always start with clean fresh micro fiber towels when removing car paint scratches.

For a quick cleaning, hand wash with any mild hand soap or dish-washing liquid and rinse well.  For cleaning after using a car scratch remover it is advisable to machine wash in hot water.  Hot water allows the Microfibers to swell and release trapped dirt. NOTE: Wash micro fiber towels separately from other clothes and towels.  Microfiber towels may be machine dried on a low temperature setting.  Use a laundry soap with no added dyes or perfumes if possible.  It is best to hang dry your towels after washing.  IMPORTANT: Do not use liquid bleach or fabric softener.  This is because these both make the fibers less effective.

Did you know a micro fiber towel is a green technology?  This is because you only need water in most cases to clean grease, oil and you name it off of any surface!  If you don’t believe me, take micro fiber towel (NOT one you use to remove paint scratches on your car .  Dampen it a little with water before cleaning your stove top or range top.  The first few wipes you will feel a little resistance, then it will glide freely and all the grease will be gone!  It’s amazing!
